Tufted Titmouse Ballet

I wasn’t expecting to be so entertained.

I’m sure the Tufted Titmouse didn’t have any ballet training.

But it danced a dance that had me transfixed.

The only thing missing, an orchestra playing a entrancing classical piece.

The incentive? A simple mixture of three ingredients.

Smooth peanut butter. Chunky would not have worked.

Smooth Jif peanut butter slathered on a pinecone.

Perhaps it was species of pinecone used that sparked the dancing?

Could be. It was a Virginia Pine pinecone (Pinus virginiana).

They’re easy to find around here.

Next ingredient, hulled sunflower seeds.

All this lasted until the squirrel got wind of what was happening. Squirrels aren’t partial to ballet.

  1. Thank you for this lovely post….made me smile, which was much needed. We are having more snow and very cold temps than I am happy with….but, it is an adventure of sorts. Getting out of our long driveway is a worry…..for date for 2nd Covid shot is fast approaching. But, temps are supposed to warm by the weekend. Snow, snow and more snow here.

    • Judy, I’m so pleased to hear that my post helped to cheer you a bit. We too have had lots of snow sleet and ice. Much more sleet and ice that seems proper. Four storms in four weeks. But I absolutely love the winter months which are slipping away much too quickly.

So marvelous to hear that you will be getting your 2nd Covid shot. We are getting our first this morning, in about an hour. It was a question whether we would be able to get down the mountain to for the appointment but sure enough there was enough sunshine yesterday afternoon to help with the plowing that VDOT did. We WILL make it! I can’t believe this past year. Totally crazy.

Hoping that you get warmer weather to bring delight.
Thanks so much for reading my posts.

    • Hi Anita! Those SQUIRRELS! Such rascals. Much more tolerable than bears. Though actually I love both of them but bears have a way of being extra rascally, like destroying or even carting away bird feeders. Squirrels had been absent for a bit recently. I guess they’ve been getting extra sleep in. BUT they’re back. Yes indeed, I think they can smell that peanut butter from long distances.

Thanks bunches for reading my posts!
