Heading For The Bird Bath

Tufted Titmice are birds that are here throughout the year. Fun little ones that know me and will come close to the feeder as I’m filling it, calling to them. Not shy birds!

As I was looking up information about the Tufted Titmouse I was surprised to find this bit of information on the allaboutbirds site: “Generally found at low elevations, Tufted Titmice are rarely reported at elevations above 2,000 feet.” This is particularly interesting because my cabin is at the 1,800 foot elevation and these birds are not rare here. Perhaps just a few hundred feet higher they are!

Few Dogwood Leaves

As the days tick away, the leaves turn more beautiful with each of those ticks. The Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) leaves however, have been turning from emerald to garnet since the end of June and have begun to fall away. Leaving berries, also known as drupes.

And those drupes gladden many species of birds, along with bunches of mammals. Each of those drupes with high fat, low sugar content. Just what is called for as winter approaches.
