They like to build their nests in a huge variety of strange things. On my front porch they have used this basket several times.

And on other occasions they chose to build their nest in an ancient graniteware coffee pot.

And now, they are raising another brood in this star-shaped bird house.
Just a thought, don’t leave your boots out on the porch too long.
Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus).

Once had a hose coiled in a plastic bag hanging on the backdoor knob over the winter – obviously too tempting for the wrens so that door was Out of Order for weeks.
Libby! Great to hear from you! I love your story of the wren in the bag with the hose on the door which had to be Our of Order for a while. The Carolina Wrens are so entertaining. I particularly enjoy the repeated songs of the males.
Have a lovely summer, and sending many hugs!
