Since these bushes were put in several years ago, memories come back to me every summer in late June. Memories of Red Currants (Ribes rubrum).
And childhood memories of the Godshall family reunions held every summer on Hill Road in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, where I’d have such fun getting together with my precious cousins. Wonderful food, A-Treat Soda, boulders here and there that each had its own name like “The Rocket”, quoit (pronounced kwait) pits next to the bushes that grew ruby-like fruit.
Those Red Currants are ripe, looking like rich red gems right now, and the birds are enjoying them. Yesterday morning as I was pulling out of the garage, on the way to yoga, I spotted a Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) having a breakfast of my memories.

Just love this, Brenda! Those are all in my memories, too, along with the big weeping willow tree! Love you, Cuz!
Ah Judie! Lovely to hear from you. Such treasured memories! Thinking back, I’m wondering if that boulder (perhaps the one closest to the house) was not called “The Rocket” but “Jet”? That didn’t occur to me until after I hit the publish button last night! And oh that big weeping willow tree. The one that Uncle Hen had wrapped himself up in its weeping pendulous twigs for a photograph. I wonder if that tree is still living, given that they have relatively short lives, 40 to 75 years.
Love you bunches!

Oh, Bren!!!
Thank you for posting this one and for your commentary. It took aboard The Way-Back Machine and made me smile and grin like the Cheshire Cat!
Love,
Bev

I have something which will bolster those memories, if I can find them, especially the willow tree!
Is that the photo of Uncle Hen wrapped with the weeping branches of that tree? That is such a funny image!
Sending hugs!
